Words are the bridge to connection.
CORE FOCUS AREAS
What does pediatric speech therapy entail?
Some little ones struggle with babbling, imitating sounds, or being understood. Speech therapy helps strengthen early sound production, laying the foundation for clear communication as vocabulary grows.
If a child isn’t using words yet, has a small vocabulary, or isn’t combining words, speech therapy builds the skills for understanding and expressing language, turning frustration into connection with the people around them.
Early communication is more than words — it’s connection. Therapists nurture eye contact, gestures, turn-taking, and play, helping children build the social skills that make relationships possible.
Speech therapy empowers families with strategies to use at home, like modeling words during play, expanding on what a child says, so progress continues beyond the session and becomes part of daily life.
PROCESS OVERVIEW
What to expect in pediatric speech therapy
1
Evaluation
Your child’s therapist begins with a thorough assessment of communication skills, including speech sounds, understanding of language, and ways they currently express themselves. This helps identify strengths and areas for support.
2
Goal setting
Using family input along with the therapist’s observations and assessment data, the SLP outlines personalized goals — from saying new sounds and using more words, to practicing turn-taking, building social skills, and growing confidence in communication.
3
Play-Based Therapy
Sessions are fun and engaging, using toys, books, games, and everyday routines to teach new skills naturally. Play is the child’s “work,” and therapy builds communication, social skills, and problem-solving abilities through those activities.
4
Real-Life Practice
Therapists help children practice skills in meaningful situation, like asking for a toy, taking turns with a sibling, or sharing a snack—while also guiding parents to join in. Families learn how to interact in ways that reinforce progress.
5
Caregiver Coaching
The SLP works alongside caregivers in real time. This hands-on practice empowers families to confidently use the same techniques at home, turning everyday moments into opportunities for growth.
6
Collaboration
With Village, progress updates and goals are shared in one secure and HIPAA-compliant place so caregivers, therapists, and other providers can stay connected. Your child thrives when everyone works together as a team.
